Ricciardo set to earn £20 million per year at Renault

Waking up this morning and you might be checking if yesterday’s shock deal really happened. Well, nothing has changed and in fact, more details about the contract deal have been confirmed.

According to SportsMail, Daniel Ricciardo will earn £20 million a year at French outfit Renault. This goes against the previous ideology Jerome Stoll said. The Renault boss wanted to prove he could achieve strong success on a low budget.

To add to the report, Christian Horner confirmed he was just as shocked as the rest of the F1 world when the Australian told him the news. He confirms Ricciardo told him the day before.

“I thought he was making a joke,” Horner told SportsMail. Reportedly, Red Bull had made a video in Austria which was meant to be Ricciardo’s contract signing. No wonder he told us it was looking more and more likely in the weeks leading up to the summer break!

It remains a mystery on why Ricciardo changed his mind at the last minute following the video being made. It’s likely that Red Bull didn’t offer as much as Renault and Max Verstappen.
